Sponsor A Child
- Harvest Appeal
- This year, as part of our Harvest Appeal, each of the five PCC’s in the Benefice has agreed to sponsor a child through Compassion UK. The children will be from the same Village in a Developing country. For the princely sum of £18 a month, we contribute to the healthcare, education, vocational training, social, emotional and spiritual care of a child and give them, their family and their local community the chance of a better life. At our Harvest Services, as well as the normal collection, separate baskets will be available to contribute specifically to our own parish's sponsored child.
1 John 3:16-18
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
Compassion UK
- Christian Child Sponsorship
- Compassion seeks out some of the world's most vulnerable children and through individual sponsors provides them with the means to break the cycle of poverty and create a viable future.
Compassion is an evangelical Christian child sponsorship organisation who give loving Christians a chance to make a difference.
Rather than being overwhelmed by the staggering statistics of poverty we believe it is our Christian responsibility to help the poor as Christ did.
Why children?
Children are clearly the greatest victims of poverty. Of the 2.2 billion children in our world today nearly half of them live in desperate conditions. But it is these children who hold the potential to break the cycle of deprivation for future generations. They are the pastors, teachers, doctors, engineers and change makers of tomorrow.
Our experience
Compassion has over 50 years experience of working with some of the poorest communities in the world. During that time more than one million children have been assisted by Compassion.
Our core values
In all we do we focus on three core values. We are:
Christ centred
We put Christ at the centre of all we do. Our desire is to show the love of Christ to those in greatest need.
Child focused
We aim to help children develop economically, physically, socially and spiritually. This enables them to become adults who can make an impact on the world around them.
Church based
We partner with local churches, and can facilitate local Christians to teach, train and mentor children.
At the age of nine Jackie used to wake up at 5am to sell charcoal by the road. Since her father died, Jackie’s family could barely make ends meet. To make matters worse her uncle sold the home they lived in leaving her mother with nowhere to turn for help. All that lay ahead was the daily struggle to survive.
Today Jackie’s life could not be more different. As a graduate from Uganda Christian University this eloquent women is outspoken on issues of injustice and poverty. Jackie is excited about the future. “There is a hero inside of me, there is potential inside me,” she proudly states. “My dream is to become a very great great woman. I believe one day I’ll make history.”
One sponsor was all it took to transform Jackie’s life.
