Wiltshire County Council

New Council Launched
The new Wiltshire Council was on 1st April 2009 providing a wide range of services for local people.

The new council replaces the county and the four district councils with a more efficient local authority that, in the first year, will save £8.5m. Local people will be given a stronger voice and an opportunity to influence the way services are provided in their communities through the introduction of area boards across the county. The new council will continue to provide services through local area offices across Wiltshire.

If I was Prime Minister I would change ...

Your expertise is wanted!
You are the expert on your local area, and know how it could be improved if Government changed the way it does things. The Sustainable Communities Act provides you with the opportunity to let us know your ideas. Are there legal requirements, rules and regulations surrounding funding or taxation, or inefficiencies connected with the distribution of responsibilities between governmental bodies, etc. which stand in the way of the creation of more sustainable local communities, then this is your chance to say how you think they need to change. Anyone can send us ideas, but the new Wiltshire Council needs to receive them by 24th April, 2009, as the Act gives it the role of considering local ideas, and forwarding those it selects on to Government.

To find out more, either pick up a leaflet at you local library, or Council office, or visit www.wiltshire.gov.uk and follow the links on the homepage to ' the Sustainable Communities Act - If I was Prime Minister .... ' You can submit ideas by filling in a tear off form on the leaflet, or use the online form.

If you want to discuss this opportunity further, please either phone David Maynard on 01225 713118 or by email davidmaynard@wiltshire.gov.uk
